What's Happening?
The Diocese of Fall River is organizing its fifth Lumen Christi Cathedral Gala on June 3 at White’s of Westport to raise funds for the ongoing restoration of St. Mary’s Cathedral. The event aims to support repairs and improvements to the cathedral, which
serves as the mother church of the diocese. Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III will receive the Luminary Award for his contributions to the community, including efforts to prevent elder abuse and domestic violence. Last year’s gala raised over $333,000, funding repairs to stained-glass windows and Our Lady’s Chapel. Current restoration efforts focus on the cathedral’s bell tower.
Why It's Important?
The Lumen Christi Gala plays a crucial role in preserving the historical and cultural significance of St. Mary’s Cathedral, a central venue for diocesan-wide Masses and celebrations. The funds raised contribute to maintaining the cathedral's structural integrity and enhancing the worship experience for the community. The event also highlights the importance of community involvement and philanthropy in supporting religious and cultural heritage. By recognizing individuals like Thomas Quinn III, the gala underscores the impact of leadership and dedication to social causes, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility.
What's Next?
As the gala approaches, organizers will focus on maximizing attendance and securing sponsorships to ensure the success of the fundraising efforts. The continued restoration of St. Mary’s Cathedral will depend on the funds raised, with future projects likely to address additional structural and aesthetic improvements. The event may also inspire similar initiatives in other communities, emphasizing the role of public support in preserving cultural landmarks. The recognition of community leaders like Thomas Quinn III may encourage others to engage in social and philanthropic activities, further strengthening community ties.
