What's Happening?
Dordt University has celebrated the graduation of its first class from the Agriculture Service Technology (AST) program. This program, developed in partnership with AgriVision Equipment, offers students a two-year degree and certification as John Deere
technicians. The inaugural class consists of nine students, with most continuing to work in the local agricultural sector. The program combines technical training with a Christian education, aiming to address workforce shortages in agricultural technology while fostering personal and spiritual growth.
Why It's Important?
The AST program is crucial in addressing the growing demand for skilled technicians in the agricultural sector, a vital industry for the U.S. economy. By integrating technical skills with Christian values, the program not only prepares students for the workforce but also emphasizes character development. This approach can lead to more ethical and community-focused professionals. The program's success could serve as a model for other institutions looking to blend vocational training with personal development.
