What's Happening?
The Mescalero Apache Tribe's Conservation Department has released the results of the 2026 First Responder Cow Elk Hunt drawing. In accordance with the Tribal Hunt Proclamation, Ordinance 26-02, a total of 20 Cow Elk permits have been allocated specifically
for first responders in Otero and Lincoln County. The hunt is scheduled to take place from October 31, 2026, to November 4, 2026. The permit fee is $150.00, with payment due by October 16, 2026. Permit pickup for the successful applicants is set for October 30, 2026. The list of recipients includes individuals from various departments such as the Otero County Sheriff, Lincoln County Fire Service, Hondo Fire Department, NM Game and Fish, USBP, Carrizozo PD, NMSP Retired, Ruidoso Fire Department, EMS Ski Patrol Ski Apache, Capitan Police Department, Bonito Volunteer Fire Dept. EMT, Capitan Fire Department, and Alamogordo PD.
