What's Happening?
A consortium, facilitated by the Global Maritime Forum and RMI, is working to establish a green shipping corridor between the Port of Açu in Brazil and the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in Belgium. This initiative involves several key players, including HIF
Global, Fuella, NYK Line, Höegh Autoliners, and Wallenius Wilhelmsen. The consortium aims to create a roadmap for transporting zero-carbon fuels, such as e-ammonia or e-methanol, produced in Açu. These fuels will also power the transport vessels, ensuring a zero- or near-zero-emission operation. The project builds on a pre-feasibility study conducted by RMI and the Global Maritime Forum in November 2025, which highlighted the competitive costs of e-fuel production in Açu. This is attributed to Brazil's supportive policies for green hydrogen production, its renewable electricity grid, and abundant renewable energy sources. The consortium is progressing towards a feasibility analysis, expected by the end of the year, to further develop this green corridor.
