What's Happening?
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) has been awarded a $6 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to launch the UWM TRANSLATE initiative. This four-year program, led by Ilya Avdeev, director of the UWM Lubar Entrepreneurship Center
and professor of mechanical engineering, aims to fundamentally rethink how university research transitions from the laboratory to practical applications in businesses, communities, and other organizations. The initiative seeks to enhance UWM's capacity to translate research into tangible impacts for Wisconsin and beyond, increase the proportion of 'use-inspired' research that addresses industry needs, and establish UWM as a national model for effective research translation at urban public research universities. The program will also focus on building stronger relationships with industry and providing comprehensive support and training for researchers.
