What's Happening?
Wageningen University & Research (WUR) has announced the launch of HortINspire, an international network dedicated to controlled environment agriculture (CEA). This initiative aims to connect growers, companies, and knowledge institutions worldwide to share
expertise and practical experiences. HortINspire will facilitate the exchange of knowledge on efficient resource use and climate control in agriculture, addressing the need for region-specific adaptations. The network will be officially presented at the GreenTech event in Amsterdam on June 10.
Why It's Important?
The establishment of HortINspire is significant as it addresses the growing demand for sustainable agricultural practices. By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, the network aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of CEA, which is crucial for food security and environmental sustainability. This initiative could lead to innovations in agricultural technology and practices, benefiting stakeholders across the agricultural sector, including growers, technology developers, and policymakers.
What's Next?
HortINspire plans to host region-specific thematic sessions, online expert discussions, and networking events to facilitate collaboration among its members. The network's online portal will serve as a platform for members to share knowledge and experiences. As the network grows, it is expected to expand its focus beyond protected cultivation to include other aspects of controlled environment agriculture, potentially influencing global agricultural practices.
