What's Happening?
The New York Public Library has announced its Best Books of 2025, featuring 225 titles across various genres for adults, teens, and children. For the first time, the library offers unlimited e-book access
to 26 selected titles through the Libby app until December 31. Physical copies of the top books are available at flagship branches in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island. The initiative aims to expand access to literature and reflect the diversity and creativity in today's literary landscape. The list is curated by over 80 librarians, emphasizing literary excellence and broad appeal.
Why It's Important?
The NYPL's initiative to provide unlimited e-book access is a significant step in promoting literacy and accessibility to literature. By offering free downloads, the library is removing barriers to reading, allowing more people to engage with diverse and high-quality literature. This move supports the library's mission to expand access to knowledge and reflects the evolving nature of library services in the digital age. The initiative may encourage other libraries to adopt similar strategies, enhancing public access to literature and supporting community engagement.
