A cross-sectional study conducted in Harare, Zimbabwe, has revealed significant bone architectural deficits among older adults living with HIV. The study, which included 1101 participants aged 40 and above, found that both men and women with HIV had lower
trabecular bone mineral density compared to their HIV-negative peers. Women with HIV also showed additional cortical bone impairments. These findings highlight the increased risk of osteoporosis and fractures in this population, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions to address bone health in older adults living with HIV.
