Portland Police officers arrested three individuals and seized five unlawfully possessed guns following a traffic stop, a high-speed chase, and an hours-long search in the Buckman neighborhood. The incident began during a "Summer Cool Down" patrol, an initiative
aimed at reducing summertime violence. Officers attempted to stop a black Tesla Model S after identifying an occupant as a suspect in an armed robbery. Despite officers deploying tire-deflating devices, the driver fled, driving recklessly before crashing the vehicle. The three occupants then fled on foot into the neighborhood. A large perimeter was established, and a shelter-in-place order was issued for residents. With the assistance of an Air Support Unit, drones, and a K-9 unit, officers located and arrested two suspects. The third suspect was later apprehended. During the pursuit, firearms were thrown from the vehicle and later recovered, with additional weapons and ammunition found inside the crashed Tesla.
