What's Happening?
United Way of Ross County is providing free tax preparation services through the IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This service is available to individuals and families with an annual
income of $69,000 or less. The VITA program, which has been in operation for over 50 years, relies on IRS-certified volunteers who have undergone tax-law training to ensure the accuracy of tax returns. Participants must pick up a tax packet at a designated location and return completed forms to the Chillicothe and Ross County Public Library Annex. The service is available on specific days and times, and volunteers cannot prepare returns for farms, rental properties, or businesses with paid employees.
Why It's Important?
The availability of free tax preparation services through the VITA program is crucial for low- to moderate-income individuals and families who may not have the resources to pay for professional tax services. By providing access to trained volunteers, United Way helps ensure that eligible taxpayers can file accurate returns and receive any refunds or credits they are entitled to. This service not only alleviates financial burdens but also promotes financial literacy and compliance with tax laws. The program's long-standing presence underscores its importance in supporting community members during tax season.
