The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) and its subsidiary, Towngas Energy, have been recognized with a silver award at the 7th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Smart Communities Initiative (ESCI) Best Practices Awards. Their
project, 'Shenzhen Urban-Style Smart Grid Innovation: Energy as a Service & Virtual Power Plant Practice,' was selected from 74 submissions across 16 APEC economies. The project, developed in collaboration with the Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau of China Southern Power Grid and Tsinghua University, integrates distributed photovoltaic systems with battery energy storage systems to form a 'virtual power plant.' This system addresses power supply and demand imbalances, land scarcity, and renewable energy grid integration challenges while supporting carbon reduction targets.
