What's Happening?
Qantas is set to open its newly redesigned Auckland International Lounge on December 17, 2025, just in time for the busy Christmas travel period. The lounge, created in collaboration with Caon Design Office,
Akin Atelier, and Architectus’ New Zealand studio, aims to enhance the travel experience for customers flying across the Tasman and on the direct Auckland-New York service. The lounge features a show kitchen, a hosted bar, and flexible zones tailored to different traveler needs, including quiet working areas and shared spaces. Enhanced connectivity will be available with USB-C power stations and wireless charging at over 80% of seats. During the construction phase, travelers can use a temporary Qantas International Business Lounge at Terminal 1 or the Plaza Premium Lounge.
Why It's Important?
The opening of the new Auckland International Lounge is part of Qantas' global lounge refurbishment program, which represents a significant investment in premium travel experiences. This development is crucial as it addresses the growing demand for premium travel options and enhances the overall customer experience. The lounge's opening coincides with Qantas' expansion of its trans-Tasman operations, including new seasonal services between Adelaide and Auckland and the launch of Auckland to Perth flights. These efforts are expected to boost tourism and business travel between Australia and New Zealand, benefiting both countries' economies.
What's Next?
Following the opening of the Auckland lounge, Qantas will continue its global lounge investment program with further upgrades planned for the Los Angeles International Business Lounge and across its domestic regional lounge network. The Sydney International Business Lounge is also undergoing redevelopment, with completion scheduled for 2027. These upgrades are part of Qantas' strategy to meet the increased demand from premium travelers and deliver enhanced services for frequent flyers.
