What's Happening?
The Pakistan Martial Arts Association (PMAA), in collaboration with IFMSA-Pakistan's CMH Local Council, conducted a self-defense workshop at CMH Lahore Medical College. This event was held in remembrance of the martyrs of the Army Public School (APS)
in Peshawar. The workshop saw participation from students in various medical disciplines, including MBBS, BDS, DPT, and Nursing. The initiative aimed to equip young individuals with practical self-defense skills and situational awareness to effectively respond to real-life threats. Major General Prof. Dr. Salman Saleem (R) emphasized the importance of self-defense training in today's world, particularly in combating harassment and child abuse. The PMAA, led by Chief Trainer Anwar Mohiuddin, has been actively providing self-defense training across educational institutions nationwide. The workshop included training in unarmed self-defense and gun disarmament techniques. The event was attended by PMAA's newly elected Chairman, Muhammad Shahzad Mughal, and prominent lawyers from the Lahore High Court.
Why It's Important?
This workshop highlights the growing emphasis on self-defense education as a tool for youth empowerment and societal safety. By equipping young people with self-defense skills, the PMAA aims to foster a sense of security and resilience among students. This initiative is particularly significant in the context of increasing concerns about personal safety and the need to combat harassment and abuse. The workshop not only honors the memory of the APS martyrs but also serves as a proactive measure to prevent future incidents of violence and abuse. The involvement of medical students underscores the interdisciplinary approach to addressing societal issues, promoting a culture of safety and awareness across various fields.
What's Next?
The PMAA plans to continue its efforts in providing self-defense training across schools, colleges, and universities. The organization is committed to expanding its reach and impact, ensuring that more young individuals are equipped with the necessary skills to protect themselves. Future workshops and training sessions are likely to be organized, with continued collaboration between PMAA and educational institutions. The success of this workshop may inspire similar initiatives in other regions, further promoting the importance of self-defense education as a critical component of youth empowerment and societal safety.
