New research based on fossilized leg bones from two Denisovan individuals, Penghu 2 and Penghu 3, suggests that these ancient hominins were significantly larger than their contemporaries, such as Homo erectus. The study, which has not yet been peer-reviewed,
indicates that Penghu 2 weighed around 183 pounds and stood nearly 5 feet 11 inches tall, while Penghu 3 was even larger at approximately 200 pounds and over 6 feet 2 inches tall. These findings, based on bones discovered in the Penghu Channel and now housed at the National Museum of Natural Science in Taiwan, provide new insights into the physical characteristics of Denisovans, who lived across Asia from roughly 400,000 to 30,000 years ago.
