The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) has released the 2025 State of HTM Report, which provides insights into the current state of the healthcare technology management (HTM) workforce. The report, developed in partnership
with TechNation, surveyed approximately 1,000 HTM professionals across North America, including biomedical equipment technicians (BMETs), clinical engineers, and management staff. The findings reveal high job satisfaction among HTM professionals, with 45% reporting high satisfaction in their roles. However, the field faces significant challenges, such as recruitment shortfalls, generational turnover, and a lack of structured succession planning. The report also notes an increase in cybersecurity and software responsibilities, as well as deeper integration with IT and electronic health records (EHRs). Despite being male-dominated, the field shows promising opportunities for women in management roles.
