A recent study conducted by researchers from French and Italian universities has found that access to AI advice significantly reduces people's accuracy while increasing their confidence. The study revealed that when AI advice was available, participants'
willingness to admit ignorance dropped from 44% to 3%, and their accuracy fell from 27% to 9%. Despite this decline in accuracy, confidence levels rose from 30% to 76%. The research, led by Valerio Capraro of the University of Milano-Bicocca, used questions where AI models typically fail, such as visual details from films, to demonstrate that the availability of AI suppresses the cognitive habit of recognizing one's own knowledge limits.
