Yuri Kubo, a native of Columbus, Indiana, has been selected for astronaut training by NASA in 2025. Kubo holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in electrical and computer engineering from Purdue University. He has an extensive background in aerospace, having worked at SpaceX for 12 years in various roles, including launch director for Falcon 9 rocket launches and director of avionics for the Starshield program. Prior to his selection, Kubo was the senior vice president of Engineering at Electric Hydrogen.
