He was a graduate of Bristol High School and had a long career with companies like Pennzoil and Union Carbide before retiring from the West Virginia Motor Carrier Division. Bowen was known for his love of the outdoors, particularly hunting, and his involvement in local sports, coaching Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He was a member of the Lyda Chapel Church and cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
