What's Happening?
HX Expeditions has made a historic first visit to Old Harbor, a remote Alutiiq community on Kodiak Island, Alaska. This marks the first time a commercial cruise line has visited the community, as part of HX's Alaska & British Columbia voyage. The visit was
developed in partnership with the Old Harbor Native Corporation to provide travelers with an authentic cultural experience. Guests explored local landmarks and participated in community-led activities, learning about Alutiiq traditions and daily life. The visit aims to support the community through tourism while preserving cultural heritage.
Why It's Important?
The visit by HX Expeditions to Old Harbor represents a significant step in promoting sustainable tourism in remote communities. By partnering with local organizations, the expedition aims to provide economic benefits to the community while preserving cultural heritage.
