The U.S. Department of Transportation has allocated an additional $78.9 million to replace the century-old St. Lucie River Railroad Bridge in Stuart, Florida. This new funding supplements the $130.5 million granted in 2023, bringing the total estimated
cost for the project to $262 million. The replacement aims to construct a new double-track structure, addressing the current bridge's limitations for both passenger and freight trains, including Brightline services and Florida East Coast Railway cargo. The existing bridge is a single-track segment that often requires coordination between train movements and marine traffic. Concurrently, Cocoa, Florida, will receive $57.5 million in federal funding to build a new Brightline station in Brevard County. This station will provide direct rail access for residents and visitors to the Space Coast, connecting them to the high-speed rail line that links South Florida with Orlando. The project includes a multimodal station, parking facilities, and approximately four additional miles of double track near State Road 528 and US-1.
