What's Happening?
BAE Systems has partnered with Forterra, an autonomous systems provider, to accelerate the development of an autonomous version of its Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV). This collaboration is part of BAE Systems' vehicle capability kit series, introduced in September 2025. The partnership aims to create a highly survivable, self-driving AMPV prototype using Forterra's AutoDrive full-stack autonomous vehicle system. This system is designed to integrate with various payloads, supporting a wide range of missions. The AMPV is intended to replace the M113 vehicle family, which has been in service with the U.S. Army since 1960. A demonstration of the new capability is scheduled for 2026.
