A new study conducted by the University of Exeter has found that drinking nitrate-rich beetroot juice can significantly lower blood pressure in older adults. The research involved 75 participants, with 36 of them aged in their 60s and 70s. These participants consumed
concentrated beetroot juice twice daily for two weeks, followed by a placebo period. The results showed a noticeable reduction in blood pressure among the older adults, attributed to the conversion of dietary nitrates into nitric oxide, which helps relax blood vessels. The study also highlighted the role of oral bacteria in this process, suggesting that beetroot juice may enhance the body's ability to produce nitric oxide by supporting beneficial bacteria in the mouth.
