What's Happening?
Ameresco, Inc., a leading energy infrastructure solutions provider, has announced a district-wide LED lighting upgrade project for Saginaw Public School District. This initiative aims to reduce energy consumption and lower operating costs across all facilities.
The project involves a comprehensive LED lighting retrofit with modern control systems across 12 schools, three service-related facilities, and the district's Board of Education administration building. In total, over 12,000 lighting fixtures will be replaced with high-efficiency LED technology. The project is structured as an energy savings performance contract (ESPC) with guaranteed energy savings, expected to reduce electricity use and generate annual cost savings for the district.
Why It's Important?
This project is crucial as it supports the district's sustainability goals while redirecting long-term savings back into educational programs and student support services. By modernizing lighting systems, the district aims to improve building efficiency and create brighter, more consistent learning environments. The initiative reflects a commitment to fiscal stewardship and sustainability, providing practical, long-term value by reducing energy consumption and maintenance costs. It also enhances visibility and supports reliable school facilities, benefiting students, staff, and the broader community.
What's Next?
Installation work for the LED lighting upgrade began in early April and is expected to be completed by August 2026. Upon completion, the district will be positioned for long-term operational efficiency and environmental responsibility. The project will not only reduce energy consumption but also create more comfortable spaces that support teaching and learning. This collaboration between Ameresco and Saginaw Public Schools highlights a shared commitment to investing in infrastructure that delivers meaningful benefits.
