What's Happening?
Türkiye has initiated the construction of its first National Fast Attack Craft (NFAC) at the İstanbul Shipyard, marking a significant milestone in its naval defense capabilities. The keel-laying ceremony took place on October 27, 2025, as part of the Turkish
Type Fast Attack Craft Project. The project began its conceptual design phase in 2020, following a contract agreement between Türkiye's Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) and the Turkish defense company STM. A subsequent contract for the prototype vessel's construction was signed in September 2024, with the first steel-cutting occurring in July 2025. The NFAC is designed for surface warfare operations in littoral waters, featuring high speed, maneuverability, and a low radar cross-section. It measures 68 meters in length, with a beam of 9.34 meters and a draft of 2.5 meters, and is powered by four diesel engines driving steerable waterjets. The vessel is expected to achieve a maximum speed exceeding 39 knots and has a crew capacity of 36 with seven days endurance.
