What's Happening?
Universal Robots has introduced the UR8 Long, a new collaborative robot (cobot) designed for industrial tasks in space-constrained environments. The UR8 Long features a reach of 1750 mm, similar to the UR20, but with a slimmer profile and an 8 kg payload capacity. Its lighter mass and compact wrist design allow for efficient operation on gantries, rails, or overhead systems. The cobot runs on Universal Robots' PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X software platforms and can be enhanced with MotionPlus technology for precise control and smoother trajectories. The UR8 Long is particularly suited for tasks such as complex weldments, precision dunnage picking, and flexible multi-point inspections. Developed in response to feedback from fabricators worldwide, the UR8 Long aims to boost productivity and attract new talent to the field of robotics.
Why It's Important?
The launch of the UR8 Long represents a significant advancement in the field of collaborative robotics, offering industries a versatile solution for optimizing space and improving efficiency. By addressing the needs of fabricators and providing an easier teaching experience, the UR8 Long has the potential to enhance weld quality and reduce rework, leading to cost savings and increased productivity. The cobot's ability to integrate with advanced motion control technology further expands its application range, making it a valuable asset for industries seeking to automate complex tasks. As the demand for automation grows, the UR8 Long could play a crucial role in attracting new talent to the robotics field, helping to address labor shortages and improve operational efficiency.
