Two state park beaches in Connecticut, Rocky Neck State Park Beach in Niantic and Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middlefield, have been closed to swimmers. The closures were announced by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)
due to the presence of indicator bacteria in the water. These bacteria, while not harmful themselves, are used to assess potential contamination levels. The DEEP conducts routine water quality tests from Memorial Day to Labor Day to ensure safety for swimmers. Despite the swimming restrictions, the parks remain open for other recreational activities.
