What's Happening?
NASA has successfully completed the prelaunch cleaning and inspection of the solar panels for the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The solar panels, known as the Solar Array Sun Shield, are crucial for powering
the telescope, which will orbit at the second Sun-Earth Lagrange point (L2), the same as the James Webb Space Telescope. The panels, each measuring approximately 7 by 10 feet, were designed and built at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. They will provide 4,100 watts of power to the telescope, enabling it to gather data on planets outside our solar system and other cosmic phenomena. The telescope is scheduled to launch on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket no earlier than August 30, 2026.
