What's Happening?
Evansville Goodwill and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield are organizing the Breaking Barriers Resource & Job Fair on May 8. The event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Helms Hall, aims to connect individuals with career opportunities, education,
and essential support services. Unlike traditional job fairs, this event focuses on upskilling and removing barriers to help individuals build sustainable careers. Attendees will have access to on-the-spot interviews with local employers, a live panel discussion on workforce development, and hands-on resume support. The fair will also provide access to community resources, including healthcare services and housing support. To ensure inclusivity, translation services for Spanish, Haitian Creole, and American Sign Language will be available.
Why It's Important?
The job fair is significant as it addresses the need for employment and skill development in the Evansville area. By providing direct connections with employers and educational pathways, the event aims to reduce unemployment and underemployment. The inclusion of support services like healthcare and housing assistance highlights a holistic approach to workforce development, recognizing that barriers outside the workplace can impact career success. This initiative can lead to long-term economic benefits for the community by fostering a more skilled and stable workforce.
