NJ Transit recently hosted an Industry Day to gather information from technology companies regarding potential solutions for a new Unified Customer Communications System. This initiative aims to provide riders with faster, more accurate, and consistent
real-time service information across all its communication platforms. The agency issued a Request for Information (RFI) on June 10, seeking details on commercially available platforms, custom-developed systems, and the application of artificial intelligence to integrate existing systems. NJ Transit President & CEO Kris Kolluri expressed encouragement at the robust response, emphasizing the goal to deliver timely information that customers expect and deserve. The proposed system is intended to serve as a single source of real-time operational information, distributing updates consistently and simultaneously across various channels, including digital signs, mobile apps, websites, text alerts, and social media. This project follows the launch of NJ Transit’s redesigned mobile app and is part of a broader $3 billion fleet modernization program, which includes the purchase of 374 new Multilevel III rail cars and over 1,000 new buses since 2018, with an additional 1,400 authorized for purchase.
