Taylor Dougherty, a first-grade teacher at Eastern Elementary School in Greenville, North Carolina, has been recognized with the 2026 Ag in the Classroom Award. This accolade honors her innovative approach to teaching agriculture to young students. Dougherty emphasizes
the importance of understanding the agricultural industry, especially for students who may not have direct exposure to it. Her lessons focus on the roles and responsibilities of farmers, helping students appreciate the effort behind food production. The curriculum includes partnerships with 4-H, providing hands-on experiences where students create habitats for animals they research. As part of her award, Dougherty will attend the National Ag in the Classroom Conference in Providence, Rhode Island.
