What's Happening?
IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced a management agreement with Lumbini Heritage Limited to open a new Crowne Plaza hotel in Lumbini, Nepal. Scheduled to open in 2026, this will be the second Crowne Plaza in the country, enhancing the brand's presence
in South Asia. The hotel will be strategically located near the main pilgrimage site and Gautam Buddha Airport, offering 137 premium rooms and 10 suites. It will also feature versatile meeting and event spaces, including a banquet hall. The Crowne Plaza brand is known for its blend of business and leisure travel, offering purpose-driven design and amenities.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of IHG Hotels & Resorts in Nepal signifies the growing demand for premium hospitality services in the region, particularly in areas with significant cultural and spiritual tourism. The new Crowne Plaza Lumbini is expected to attract both international and domestic travelers, including those from neighboring Indian states. This development is part of IHG's broader strategy to strengthen its portfolio in South West Asia, where it currently operates 51 hotels across six brands. The new hotel will likely boost local tourism and provide economic benefits through job creation and increased visitor spending.
