Australian shipbuilder Austal has partnered with ASC and Curtin University to advance additive manufacturing capabilities in the country's naval industry. The initiative, supported by the Additive Manufacturing Cooperative Research Centre, aims to develop
a framework for assessing components suitable for 3D printing. This project, valued at approximately AUD600,000, seeks to enhance the production and maintenance of naval vessels, including the Royal Australian Navy's Collins-class submarines. The framework will facilitate more informed decisions on integrating additive manufacturing into supply chains, potentially reducing reliance on overseas suppliers.
