A study conducted in China has developed a new competence model for academic medical postgraduates, using a mixed-methods approach. The research involved interviews with mentors and postgraduates, expert
consultations, and a cross-sectional survey. The study aimed to identify core competencies required for medical postgraduates, categorized into learning, practical, academic, and communication competencies. The research was conducted over nine months, involving 662 respondents from five Chinese universities. The study used exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis to develop and verify the competence model, which was based on a self-designed questionnaire.
