What's Happening?
The National President of the Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF), Michael Tetteh Kwetey, has urged the government to ensure the timely release of funds for agricultural policies
and programs. Speaking at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration in Ho, Mr. Kwetey emphasized the importance of prompt financial support to enhance productivity and food security. He commended the government for its policies aimed at transforming the agricultural sector but noted that delayed funding undermines these initiatives. Mr. Kwetey also called for increased investment to attract youth into agriculture and improve farmer welfare through better pension packages and life insurance.
Why It's Important?
Timely funding is crucial for the success of agricultural initiatives, which are often time-sensitive and season-dependent. Delays in financial support can significantly impact productivity, food security, and the livelihoods of farmers and fishermen. By ensuring prompt funding, the government can enhance the effectiveness of its agricultural policies, leading to improved food security and economic stability. Additionally, attracting youth to agriculture and improving farmer welfare can lead to a more sustainable and appealing agricultural sector, which is vital for the country's economic growth and development.
