What's Happening?
The Columbus Blue Jackets, in collaboration with OhioHealth, are set to host Hockey Fights Cancer Night on November 13 at Nationwide Arena. This event coincides with the team's game against the Edmonton
Oilers and aims to honor individuals battling cancer while raising awareness and support for cancer-related causes. Attendees will receive a Hockey Fights Cancer fleece blanket, and are encouraged to wear lavender, symbolizing all types of cancer. The event will feature the introduction of the 2025 Class of Pediatric Cancer Heroes, recognized through the Blue Jackets Foundation’s Heroes program. Over 1,000 guests from local cancer support organizations will attend the game free of charge, including representatives from Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio and Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana.
Why It's Important?
Hockey Fights Cancer Night is significant as it highlights the ongoing battle against cancer and supports those affected by the disease. The event not only raises awareness but also funds vital programs for pediatric cancer patients and their families. The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation has been committed to this cause since 2000, hosting fundraisers that provide therapeutic experiences and palliative care support. The initiative is part of a broader effort by the NHL and NHLPA, which has raised over $36 million for cancer research since its inception. This event underscores the importance of community involvement in supporting cancer research and patient care.
What's Next?
Fans can participate in several initiatives to support the cause, including a 50/50 raffle with a guaranteed jackpot of at least $10,000, a Hockey Fights Cancer jersey raffle, and an online auction of exclusive items. Proceeds from these activities will benefit pediatric cancer initiatives. Additionally, exclusive Hockey Fights Cancer merchandise will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the Foundation’s programs. The Blue Jackets will continue their season with a game against the Calgary Flames on November 5, with live coverage available on FanDuel Sports Network Ohio.
