What's Happening?
Dvora Inwood, inspired by her daughter's difficulty in finding volunteer opportunities, has launched Samaritan Scout, a nonprofit search engine for volunteer work. Following a Stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis,
Inwood collaborated with Mosaic United to create Volunteer Hub, a platform connecting Diaspora Jews with volunteer opportunities in Israel. The initiative aims to provide a positive outlet for those feeling powerless in the face of adversity, particularly after the October 7 attacks in Israel. The platform was developed with the help of college-aged volunteers from diverse backgrounds, emphasizing community involvement and support.
Why It's Important?
The creation of Volunteer Hub highlights the power of community-driven initiatives in addressing social needs. By connecting individuals with volunteer opportunities, the platform fosters a sense of purpose and solidarity, particularly among Diaspora Jews seeking to support Israel. This initiative also underscores the potential for technology to facilitate social good, bridging gaps between communities and providing meaningful ways to contribute. The involvement of young volunteers from various backgrounds reflects a commitment to inclusivity and the importance of youth engagement in philanthropy.
