Restore, a nature restoration company, has purchased 7,500 acres of Northumbrian moorland in England for £8.5 million. This acquisition is central to an ambitious rewilding initiative aimed at transforming a significant area in northern England into a wild refuge,

The company plans to raise an additional £4 million to fully fund its 20-year plan, after which investors will receive twice their initial investment, and the bank loan will be settled. The acquired Emblehope Moor, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), was previously utilized for sheep farming, grouse shooting, and dog training. It currently hosts various native species, but its peatlands have been affected by old agricultural drainage systems. Restore's immediate priorities include blocking these drains to restore water levels in the peatlands and removing non-native Sitka spruce plantations.
