What's Happening?
The Mayor-President's office in Baton Rouge has initiated the Youth Workforce Experience program, aimed at providing high school students in East Baton Rouge Parish with real work experience. The program enrolled 100 students who attended an onboarding
event at Glen Oaks Magnet High. Participants will work in various businesses, including law firms, non-profit organizations, and offices, earning $10 per hour for up to 30 hours per week from June 1 to July 31. The initiative is designed to help students explore career options and gain valuable work skills, with participants receiving certification as 'work-ready youth' upon completion.
Why It's Important?
The Youth Workforce Experience program is crucial for equipping young people with practical skills and work experience, which are essential for their future career prospects. By providing students with exposure to different industries, the program helps them make informed decisions about their career paths. This initiative also addresses the broader issue of youth unemployment by preparing students for the workforce, potentially reducing unemployment rates in the long term. Additionally, the program fosters community engagement by involving local businesses and organizations in the development of the next generation of workers.
