Rwanda has been announced as Africa's first AI scaling hub, receiving a $17.5 million funding boost to drive AI innovation across key sectors such as health, education, and agriculture. The initiative, led by the Rwanda Centre for the Fourth Industrial
Revolution (C4IR) under the Ministry of ICT and Innovation, aims to develop and deploy AI technologies that address real-world challenges, particularly for underserved communities. The funding, which more than doubles the initial commitment from the Gates Foundation, was revealed by Yves Iradukunda, Minister of State in the Ministry of ICT and Innovation. The hub will focus on projects like AI-powered telemedicine, AI-driven health supply chains, AI-enabled ultrasound imaging, AI-powered agriculture advisory, and AI-based learning assessments.
