What's Happening?
Several North American Jewish families are making aliyah to Israel despite ongoing conflicts in the region. Organized by Nefesh B’Nefesh (NBN), the initiative aims to assist these families in relocating to Israel, with over 450 people attending a launch
event in New Jersey. The event, held in collaboration with Israel's Aliyah and Integration Ministry and other organizations, marks the beginning of the 2026 summer aliyah season. Participants, including families with children, are preparing to move to various parts of Israel, motivated by a desire for a 'forever home' and a sense of safety despite the current security situation. The event featured community support and resources to help families transition smoothly.
Why It's Important?
This movement highlights a significant trend among North American Jews seeking to establish roots in Israel, driven by both cultural and security considerations. The decision to move amidst conflict underscores a deep connection to Israel and a belief in its long-term safety. This influx of new immigrants could impact Israel's demographic and cultural landscape, contributing to its diversity and resilience. The initiative also reflects the ongoing support and collaboration between Jewish organizations in North America and Israel, strengthening ties and fostering a sense of global Jewish community.
What's Next?
As the aliyah season progresses, NBN plans to facilitate the relocation of approximately 2,300 North American Jews to Israel. These families will face the challenges of adapting to a new country, including finding housing, employment, and integrating into Israeli society. The Israeli government and supporting organizations are expected to continue providing resources and support to ensure a smooth transition. The long-term impact of this migration on both the families and Israeli society will unfold as they settle into their new lives.
