What's Happening?
The Obuasi Trade Show is set to return from December 17 to 20, featuring an expanded program aimed at strengthening local businesses and boosting the economy of the Obuasi municipality. The event, supported
by AngloGold Ashanti and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, will include business development workshops, product innovation competitions, and networking sessions. The trade show, which began in 2019, has evolved into a comprehensive economic development platform, providing training, market access, and financial literacy programs. The 2025 edition promises to build on past successes, with a focus on connecting local entrepreneurs to international markets.
Why It's Important?
The Obuasi Trade Show plays a crucial role in diversifying the local economy, which has historically relied on gold mining. By promoting small business development and entrepreneurship, the trade show aims to reduce economic vulnerability and create sustainable income sources. The involvement of financial institutions and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority highlights the importance of access to capital and international market opportunities for local businesses. The trade show serves as a model for other mining communities seeking to create lasting economic benefits beyond direct employment and royalty payments.
