What's Happening?
The Legalega Research Station in Nadi, Fiji, is set to undergo significant redevelopment to become a major agricultural hub. Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Waterways and Sugar, Inosi Kuridrani, announced plans to transform the idle land into a center
for research facilities, crop and livestock offices, and staff amenities. This initiative aims to extend services to farmers in the western and highland regions, consolidating existing services and reducing rental costs by relocating offices from Nadi town to Legalega. The project also includes plans to replicate the Navuso Agriculture Technical Institute model in Navatumali, Navosa, focusing on horticulture and beef farming. The center will offer structured education and certification programs for youths, aiming to strengthen farming practices and empower communities. Mechanized farming practices suitable for highland climates will be introduced, and the initiative seeks to utilize idle Ministry land effectively to keep pace with Western development.
