Ajay Banga, the president of the World Bank Group, has lauded the agricultural initiatives of the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Yogi Adityanath, as a global model for small and marginal farmers. During the AgriConnect Flagship event at the 2025 World Bank Annual
Meetings, Banga highlighted the state's integration of technology with agriculture, which he observed firsthand during a visit. The model emphasizes climate adaptability, using climate-tolerant seeds, soil-specific fertilizers, regenerative farming methods, efficient irrigation systems, and robust crop insurance measures. Banga noted that digital technology plays a crucial role in this system, providing tools for diagnosing crop diseases, suggesting fertilizers, issuing weather alerts, and enabling secure payments. The UP government has also launched the UP AGRISE project in partnership with the World Bank to further strengthen the state's agricultural system through technology and financial support.
