Hundreds of community members gathered at Pittsfield Municipal Airport to provide a long-overdue welcome home to Berkshire County Vietnam veterans. The event, organized by former state Rep. William 'Smitty' Pignatelli, marked the first Honor Flight for veterans departing
from Pittsfield. Nearly a dozen veterans traveled to Washington, D.C., to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. Upon their return, they were greeted with patriotic music from the Lenox High School Band and a cheering crowd. The day included surprises such as a greeting from U.S. Rep. Richard Neal at the memorial wall and tribute bags containing personal letters from Representative Neal, citations from Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, and other commemorative items.
