What's Happening?
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT), in collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration, is progressing with the 'Missing Move' project, a $144 million initiative to construct new ramps connecting Route 4 and Interstate 95. This
project aims to provide drivers with the ability to travel from Route 4 to I-95 in all directions using these new ramps. Construction began last year and is currently on schedule, with an anticipated completion in 2027. Federal Highway Administrator Sean McMaster noted that the project is expected to save approximately one million hours of congestion annually. U.S. Sen. Jack Reed highlighted that the new highway access will enable vehicles to travel directly from Quonset Point to destinations like Maine or New York without encountering traffic lights. The project is partially funded by an $81 million federal Infrastructure for Rebuilding America grant.
