Consumer Reports has conducted an investigation into popular protein powders and shakes, revealing that many contain concerning levels of lead. The study tested 23 protein products, finding that over two-thirds
had more lead in a single serving than what is considered safe for an entire day. Plant-based protein powders were particularly problematic, with some products like Naked Nutrition's Vegan Mass Gainer and Huel's Black Edition showing lead levels significantly above safe limits. In response, Naked Nutrition has requested third-party testing, while Huel maintains confidence in its product safety. The report highlights that dairy-based protein powders generally had lower lead levels, but still advises caution in daily use.
