Wise Ancestors, a U.S.-based NGO, has launched a crowdfunding initiative in partnership with Indigenous communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to support conservation efforts. The project aims to raise $24,000 to generate a reference genome
for the Bosenge tree and plant 100 seedlings near local villages. This initiative is part of a broader effort to restore habitats, enhance food security, and support local economies. The Bosenge tree is crucial for the community as it hosts edible caterpillars, a vital food source. The project also aligns with the Earth Biogenome Project's goals to document the genomes of all eukaryotic life forms.
