Pinggu district in Beijing is pioneering a new model of agriculture that integrates scientific expertise directly into rural farming practices. This initiative, known as 'doctor-led farms', was launched in 2022 and involves over 400 doctoral degree holders
working alongside local farmers. The program aims to enhance agricultural productivity by pairing researchers with local households, thereby improving farming techniques and yields. Zhao Bo, an associate professor from the Beijing University of Agriculture, is a key figure in this initiative. He has been instrumental in developing a 'family farm + doctor farm' model, which has been well-received by local farmers. The district is also planning to establish a major logistics storage complex and an international research institute focused on agricultural microorganisms, further positioning itself as a hub for technology-driven agriculture.
