What's Happening?
The Verdugo Jobs Center, in collaboration with the City of Glendale, has secured an additional assistance grant aimed at providing short-term training opportunities for individuals laid off from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) starting in October
2025. This initiative is designed to help former JPL employees acquire new skills, earn certifications, and prepare for new career paths. The center has already facilitated training in various fields such as project management, business analysis, Python programming, artificial intelligence, data science, Six Sigma, digital marketing, Microsoft Office, and AutoCAD. These opportunities are intended to assist individuals in enhancing their skills, transitioning into new roles, or remaining competitive in the current job market. The Verdugo Jobs Center encourages affected former JPL employees to reach out for information on eligibility and available services.
Why It's Important?
This initiative is significant as it addresses the challenges faced by former JPL employees due to the workforce reduction. By providing training and skill development opportunities, the Verdugo Jobs Center is helping these individuals adapt to the evolving job market, which is crucial for maintaining economic stability and personal livelihoods. The program not only supports the affected employees but also contributes to the broader workforce development by equipping individuals with skills that are in demand across various industries. This can lead to a more skilled workforce, which is beneficial for economic growth and competitiveness.
What's Next?
Former JPL employees are encouraged to contact the Verdugo Jobs Center to explore the training opportunities available to them. The center will continue to offer workforce services, career services, and supportive services to eligible individuals. As the program progresses, it may expand to include additional training areas based on market demand and participant feedback. The success of this initiative could potentially lead to similar programs being implemented in other regions facing workforce reductions.
