What's Happening?
The Rock Island Arsenal, in collaboration with Visit Quad Cities, has introduced a new self-guided historical tour on the island. This initiative, known as the Arsenal Trail, features 13 points of interest, including Colonel Davenport’s historical home,
Quarters One, and the Rock Island National Cemetery. The tour is designed to offer visitors an immersive experience of the island's rich history. Participants can register for the tour on the Visit Quad Cities website. As an incentive, those who check in at all 13 stops will receive a $15 coupon for use at the island's recreation facilities and will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Visa gift card.
Why It's Important?
This self-guided tour is significant as it promotes cultural tourism and historical education in the Quad Cities area. By highlighting key historical sites, the tour aims to attract both local residents and tourists, potentially boosting the local economy through increased visitation. The initiative also serves to preserve and promote the historical significance of the Rock Island Arsenal, which has been a pivotal site in U.S. military history. The partnership with Visit Quad Cities underscores a collaborative effort to enhance regional tourism and community engagement.
What's Next?
As the tour gains traction, it is likely to see increased participation, especially during peak tourist seasons. The success of this initiative could lead to the development of additional tours or events that further explore the history and significance of the Rock Island Arsenal. Local businesses and tourism-related services may also benefit from the increased foot traffic, potentially leading to further economic opportunities in the area. Continued promotion and community involvement will be key to sustaining interest and participation in the tour.
